Miners Stymie Casper, Take 3-1 Win
|
The Miners faced a stiff challenge from Casper pitcher Reuben Moerman, but persevered to claim a win at Marquette Stadium. The final score was 3-1. Moerman went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs. Devin Gaines was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed 1 run on 3 hits, with 6 walks and 2 strikeouts. Carson Vancuren earned the save for Marquette, his 2nd of the year.
Early in the game, designated hitter Theron Montecalvo had a run-scoring triple for Marquette. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Miners on top, 2-1.
In postgame comments to the Marquette Daily News, Montecalvo said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
