Halberds Clip Doubledays in Tight Contest
|
With designated hitter Ethan Stanford leading the charge, the Alloway Halberds defeated the Tremont Doubledays, 9-7, at Doubledays Stadium. Stanford, who is tied for 2nd in the SAAA in bases on balls with 85, was 2 for 2 with a double and 4 walks. Alloway reliever Marcos Sarmiento picked up the win, upping his record to 7-1. Daniel Lavalley absorbed the loss. Alloway is now 46-45, Tremont 49-42.
The most important at-bat for Alloway came in the top of the ninth inning, when right fielder Juan Salinas stroked a 2-2 fastball to left for a grand slam home run, putting Alloway up, 8-7.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Alloway manager Santiago Vargas.
