The Port Royal Disaster bested the Vermont Lake Monsters, 8-4, at Ballpark of Port Royal. Javier Martínez was named player of the game. He went 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. Kevin Samuels picked up the save, his 2nd. Even with the win, the Disaster have a dismal 8-19 record.
Naperville, Illinois-born Winston Sparks came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st and the Disaster trailing 2-1, he hit a 2-run home run to left to put Port Royal on top.
"Enjoyed this one," Martínez told the Port Royal Chronicle. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
