|
Tortolita beat Houston at Drummers Ballpark, escaping with a 8-7 win. The win in large part was due to third baseman Steve Costillo, who earned player of the game honors. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. Tortolita reliever Briggs Bourgeois was the winner. His record is now 2-0. The losing pitcher was William DeWitt. It was the 14th win in 20 games this year for the defending champion Drummers, who are picking up where they left off.
Costillo had a game-changing single in the bottom of the ninth. On a 1-2 slider from William DeWitt, he banged a run-scoring single to right, giving the Drummers a 8-7 lead. It was the 19th hit of the year for Costillo.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Costillo said.
