McGirt Stars for Longnecks in 12-5 Win
|
With center fielder Willie McGirt leading the charge, the Bloomington Longnecks defeated the Vermont Lake Monsters, 12-5, at Lookouts Ballpark. McGirt, the ten overall pick in the 2028 draft, went 4-4 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Atila Freska got the win, improving to 2-0. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 0. Picking up the save was Vicente Escamilla, his 1st.
McGirt had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning, when he drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Longnecks went on to win.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," McGirt said.
Bloomington, at 9-1, has sizzled in the early going.
