Hotspur Reserves Hope Opening Day Win Bodes Well for Season
Crowds lined up early in front of Spirits Stadium, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2030 USPL Triple A season. On the mound was José Ruíz for the visiting Phoenix Hotspur Reserves and Víctor García for the hometown Salt Lake City Buzz. In a spirited contest, the Hotspur Reserves pulled out the win, defeating the Buzz by the score of 3-2. Earning player of the game honors was José Ruíz. In 8 innings, Ruíz surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Richard Osborn closed the game out for Phoenix, earning his 1st save.

Had Enrico Sánchez not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Sánchez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Hotspur Reserves.

"We put it together today and came out with the win," Sánchez said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
