Sonics Win at Lancaster, 5-3
|
The Atlantic City Sonics beat the Lancaster Farmers, 5-3, at Farmers Field. The win was largely due to the efforts of designated hitter Randy Sheffield, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The winner was José Cotilla, who threw 111 pitches over 7.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 3 runs on 7 hits. Doppo Omikado, credited with the save, is now 14 for 17 in save opportunities.
One important at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd in the top of the third inning. Facing Lancaster hurler Sergio Zamora, Eddie Sachs, who is tied for 3rd in the SAA in home runs with 11, drew a walk. The Sonics went on to win.
"Some of the guys in here work pretty hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Sheffield told the Atlantic City Today.
The Sonics saw their win-loss record go to 41-26. At the same time, the Farmers fell to 35-32.
