Seawolves Raise Rally Flag, Beat Springfield, 8-7
|
Long Island withstood an impressive performance by Springfield third baseman Fletcher Megarity to defeat the Shooters, 8-7, at Springfield Stadium. Megarity was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The win was credited to Eric Foster in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Richard Hubbard took the loss. After today's action, Long Island sits at 34-33, while Springfield falls to 34-33.
Had Fernando Pineda not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Pineda hit a 2-run double. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Seawolves.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Long Island manager Matt Helsley.
