Shooters Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Rapiers
|
Springfield pitcher Tod Whipple did his part in helping his team beat the Durham Rapiers, 4-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. The win was credited to Tomás Galván in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Felipe Melgar took the loss. Gabriel Valenzuela nailed down his 3rd save.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 2nd and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. That's when designated hitter César Gómes, who is tied for 6th in the SAA with a .971 OPS, hit a single. The Shooters went on to win.
In postgame comments to the Springfield Today, Whipple said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
Springfield is now 12-13, Durham 16-9.
