Late Rally by Flyers Secures Win
|
Brinkley got a terrific performance from pitcher Clancy McKinney, but it wasn't enough to beat the Pennsauken Flyers. Pennsauken won the Pennsauken Park contest, 4-2. McKinney was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball. The winner was Mike Foltynewicz, who threw 118 pitches over 8 innings. The left-hander was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits. The 7th-place Belugas have lost 4 straight games.
Had Raúl Guerrero not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Guerrero hit a 2-run double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Flyers.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Guerrero told a Pennsauken Herald reporter. "Sometimes we need just to relax."
