Fighting Dachsunds Slip Past Augusta, 4-3
|
The Augusta Timber Hawks got a superb performance from pitcher Gary Barber, but the Ellenburg Fighting Dachsunds still won the game, 4-3. Barber was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. Ellenburg reliever Cristo Rodríguez picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-0. Cornelius Bigelow was collared with the loss. The Fighting Dachsunds own a robust 36-19 mark.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the 11th inning, when Ellenburg center fielder Edgar Balerio, facing Cornelius Bigelow, had a run-scoring single. It gave the Fighting Dachsunds the 4-3 win.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Augusta manager Junior Benítez. "But we decided not to take it."
