Great Lakers Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Coyotes
|
The Pure Michigan Great Lakers topped the Hamilton Coyotes, 5-1, in M3L Triple A action at Coyote Wildlife Refuge. The player of the game was Pure Michigan pitcher Rubén Rodríguez. Rodríguez went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 5, and struck out 5. His record improves to 5-2. José López picked up the save, his 3rd.
Had Lorenzo Ruíz not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Ruíz hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 1-0, in favor of the Great Lakers.
Ruíz told a Pure Michigan Daily News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
The Great Lakers saw their win-loss record go to 28-18. At the same time, the Coyotes fell to 12-34.
