Rainbow Mermaids Lose to Divided, 6-3
|
The D.C. Divided beat the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 6-3, at Washington Stadium. The win was largely due to the efforts of catcher Brant Thigpen, who captured player of the game honors. He went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. D.C. reliever Luis Fernández got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Raúl Gómez was tagged with the loss. The save went to Gabriel Hidalgo, his 4th this season.
Thigpen contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for D.C. in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-1, Thigpen took a cutter from Raúl Gómez and stroked the home run to left. His 2nd home run of the season allowed the Divided to leap in front, 5-2.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Thigpen.
D.C., at 13-18, occupies 9th place in the Premier League.
