Rainbow Mermaids Win Again, Extend Streak to 6
|
With center fielder Alfredo Pizarro leading the charge, the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids defeated the Vancouver Grey Wolves, 6-3, at Wolf Den in Vancouver. Pizarro, who is tied for 3rd in the PL in triples with 2, was 3-4 with 3 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Javier Desdin, the winner, improved to 3-1. He held the Grey Wolves to 1 earned run on 6 hits over 5.1 innings, while striking out 1 and walking 0. David Hudson closed the game out for Northern Virginia, earning his 9th save.
In the top of the 6th, second baseman Colt Cabana gave Northern Virginia the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Rainbow Mermaids had been trailing 2-1, but the two-out single off Vancouver pitcher Ray Skipworth changed that -- and Northern Virginia went on to win.
"I really like what we did out there today," Pizarro said after the game.
Northern Virginia leads the Premier League by 3 games.
