Cattlemen Need Extra Frames to Get Past Lakers
|
The Echo Park Lakers got a superb performance from pitcher Mike Owens. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Ft. Worth. The Cattlemen won the game, 3-2. In spite of the loss, Owens was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings of 4-hit ball. The Lakers, at 35-65, have lost 6 in a row.
Gilberto Juárez had a clutch at-bat with no one out in the top of the seventh for the Cattlemen. Coming up with a runner on 1st and Ft. Worth trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run home run.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Juárez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
