Cattlemen Edge Past BC, 1-0
|
Philadelphia 1776 got a terrific performance from pitcher Elroy Thompkins, but it wasn't enough to beat the Ft. Worth Cattlemen. Ft. Worth won the The Cattle Pen contest, 1-0. Thompkins was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 8 innings of shutout ball. The winner was Ft. Worth reliever Jason Horne, now 5-1. The loser was Carlos Ramos. The Cattlemen now own a record of 51-42.
The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the tenth inning, when Ft. Worth third baseman Alan Elder, facing Carlos Ramos, had a run-scoring ground out. It gave the Cattlemen the 1-0 win.
"It feels good to get this one," Elder told the Ft. Worth News.
