Pérez, Mercer Island Start PL AA Championship Strong with Home Win
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles started the PL AA Championship in style today, downing the visiting Richland Rails at Mercer Island Grounds by a score of 16-2 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Screaming Eagles second baseman Jorge Pérez was named player of the game after he was 4-6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3.

Stanley van de Ven aided the Mercer Island cause with a bases-clearing triple in the bottom of the third. For the game, the center fielder was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 singles, while adding 5 RBI.

"I really like what we did out there today," van de Ven said after the game.

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at Mercer Island Grounds in Mercer Island. Slated to start are Paco Manuel for the Richland Rails and Victor Lustig for the the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles.
