Their bats were silent and Calgary had a rookie on the mound. No problem.

On a day when the Lynx struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 23-year-old starter Ray Skipworth. The right-hander quieted the Tortolita Drummers at Lynx Stadium to help Calgary take the 2-1 decision and seize a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-5 SL AAA Championship.

The Drummers had trouble solving Skipworth, who surrendered 1 earned run on 2 hits over 8.1 innings.

"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Tortolita manager Arturo Chávez said following the tough loss.

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow in Calgary. Slated to start are Mack MacDonald for the Tortolita Drummers and Roy Shively for the the Calgary Lynx.
