The Heron Refuge was the site of a exceptional pitchers' duel.
Hammond rode a fine outing from starter Kanakanui Lokomaikainani to victory over the Columbia River Rats at The Heron Refuge. The final score was 2-1. Lokomaikainani got the win, improving to 8-9. He allowed 6 hits and walked 1 over 7.1 innings. Lokomaikainani allowed 1 earned run. Aaron Houchens got the save, the 4th for him this season.
Armando Romero, who is tied for 9th in the PA in home runs with 7, aided the Hammond cause with a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh. For the game, the third baseman drove in one run.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Hammond manager Davis Burt said.
Hammond is now 39-57, while Columbia is 58-38.
