Victory Over Bulls Takes Columbia to 24-13
|
The River Rats faced a stiff challenge from Mt. Vernon pitcher Pete Venegas, but persevered to claim a win at Columbia Stadium. The final score was 2-0. Venegas went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs. The River Rats have an impressive 24-13 record.
The River Rats got a big at-bat from shortstop Robert Hillier. For the game, Hillier went 1-3, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 30th hit of the season gave Columbia a 1-0 lead.
In postgame comments to the Columbia Bulletin, Hillier said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
