Bulls Topple Black Cats with Late Rally
|
Mt. Vernon Bulls starter Pete Venegas turned in an exceptional performance against the Gwinnett County Black Cats at Pipers Ballpark, resulting in a Mt. Vernon win, 4-2. Venegas went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 6, and struck out 4. His record improves to 2-0. The first-place Bulls have a one-game lead in their division.
Had Bartolo Sierra not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Sierra hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Bulls.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Mt. Vernon manager Kane Shoemaker. "It's usually not just one thing."
