Generals Subdue Niagara Falls, 6-5
|
The Washington Generals defeated the Niagara Falls Expos, 6-5. Earning player of the game honors was catcher Daryl Yandell, who was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Abdul Rashad got credit for the win, improving to 3-1. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.2 innings. Randy Gabaldon earned the save for Washington, his 10th.
Yandell had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 1-1 fastball from Benedicto Castellon, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Generals a 6-5 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Yandell.
"Nervous? No," said Yandell. "It was my time to shine."
The win puts the Generals at 38-36, while the Expos drop to 35-39.
