Ponce de Leon Helps Plainsmen Run Win Streak to 3
|
Getting a good performance from second baseman Gerardo Ponce de Leon, the Nebraska Plainsmen defeated the Athletic Club KC U-21, 7-5. Ponce de Leon went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Plainsmen. Liam Thomson picked up the win, improving his season record to 1-2. He struck out 3 in 6.1 innings. Nick Kelley earned the save, his 3rd, for the Plainsmen.
Rafael Porfrio, who is tied for 5th in the SA in home runs with 5, helped out the Nebraska cause in the top of the sixth inning with a 2-run single. For the game, the first baseman went 2 for 5 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Porfrio.
