Late Rally by Generals Secures Win
|
Fans of the Washington Generals who packed the stands for the home opener were rewarded with a Washington win over the visiting Myrtle Beach Seahawks, 5-2. Marco Sledge started for the home team against Raneem Zogby. Marco Sledge earned the coveted player of the game honors. Randy Gabaldon closed the game out for Washington, earning his 1st save.
The Generals got a big at-bat from third baseman Chad Silander. For the game, Silander went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Washington a 3-2 lead.
"I just love going out and having a big game," Sledge said when asked about being named player of the game. "It's an honor to have your talents recognized."
