A nice crowd turned out to see the Put-In-Bay BC and Mancelona Torch clash at Torch Field.
The Put-In-Bay BC bested the Mancelona Torch, 9-4, at Torch Field. Manny Bendixen was named player of the game. He went 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. Barry Mullen got the win, improving to 5-4. He pitched 8.2 innings, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 7 and walking 1.
The BC got a big at-bat from left fielder Franklin Kelley. For the game, Kelley was 1 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the top of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 13th double of the season gave Put-In-Bay a 4-2 lead.
"We came out aggressive," said BC manager Tim Wilson. "We came out swinging the bats."
Put-In-Bay improves to 53-33 with the win. They lead their division by 2½ games.
