Screaming Eagles Solve Youth, 4-2
|
The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles picked up a win at Grenadiers Ballpark, knocking off the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 4-2. Starting pitcher Toyozo Yoshida, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. Yoshida, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 2 walks. Reid Garrett was called on to finish, recording his 3rd save.
The Screaming Eagles got a lift from third baseman Bastiaan Trommel who had a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning off José Quiñones. It was his 10th RBI of the season and put Mercer Island in front, 1-0.
"It was a good effort all around," said Trommel.
Mercer Island goes to 62-39. The win puts them 5 games up in their division.
