Late Rally by Mermen Secures Win
|
The Myrtle Beach Mermen topped the Phoenix Hotspur Youth, 5-4, in USPL Double A action at Tennille Grounds. The player of the game was Myrtle Beach pitcher Tony Alfonso. Guus Ketting notched his 3rd save in 3 chances. Myrtle Beach is now 33-38.
Myrtle Beach took a 5-4 lead on Carlos González's 80th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which González hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Phoenix Hotspur pitcher Vernon Turner visibly frustrated.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Alfonso. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
