Both teams had their chances, but the Asheville Highlanders eventually prevailed at Asheville Park.

The Myrtle Beach Mermen got a superb performance from second baseman Wilson López, but the Asheville Highlanders still won the game, 5-4. López was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 4 for 5 with 4 singles. Asheville is now riding a 3-game win streak.

A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the eighth, with the game tied, Bob Miller was at the plate when Asheville scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Highlanders to go in front, 5-4.

"It feels good to get this one," Miller told the Asheville Chronicle.
