Highlanders Fall Short at San Antonio
|
The San Antonio BC eked out a 6-5 win versus the Asheville Highlanders at San Antonio Field. Nobody did more than designated hitter Abraham Phelps, who captured player of the game honors. San Antonio reliever Pepe Delgado picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Fernando Varela took the loss. The win lifts San Antonio to a record of 5-6.
Phelps had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the ninth. On a full count fastball from Fernando Varela, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the BC a 6-5 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Phelps.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Asheville manager Richard Weaver. "But we decided not to take it."
