Highlanders Mow Down Lionhearts, 9-3
|
Asheville third baseman Gil Simmons was instrumental in his team's 9-3 win over the Lannister United Lionhearts. Simmons went 2-4 with 2 runs scored to lead the offensive attack for the Highlanders. Elend Venture got the win, improving to 2-1. He worked 6.2 innings, giving up 2 runs on 11 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. Asheville is now 4-4.
Despite the loss, the Highlanders got an encouraging performance from 20-year-old Ashley Thachi. In the top of the seventh, he hit a 2-run single to make the score 9-3, Lannister United.
"It's not easy for a young guy to go out there and perform," Highlanders manager Richard Weaver said. "But he did it like one of the vets."
