Tight Tilt Goes to Youth, 4-3
|
The Myrtle Beach Mermen got a superb performance from pitcher Risto Hannila. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Phoenix Hotspur. The Youth won the game, 4-3. In spite of the loss, Hannila was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. José Ruíz got credit for the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits in 7.1 innings. Picking up the save was Derrick Hopkins, his 1st.
In the bottom of the 7th, center fielder Wagaw Lukongolo gave Phoenix Hotspur the lead when he hit a 2-run single. The Youth had been trailing 3-2, but the two-out single off Myrtle Beach pitcher Russ Wood changed that -- and Phoenix Hotspur went on to win.
"It feels good to get this one," Lukongolo told the Phoenix Hotspur Chronicle.
The loss drops Myrtle Beach to 5-2.
