Highlanders Topple Screaming Eagles with Late Rally
|
Crowds lined up early in front of Asheville Park, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2029 USPL Double A season. On the mound was Rob Ford for the visiting Mercer Island Screaming Eagles and Claudio Salazar for the hometown Asheville Highlanders. In a spirited contest, the Highlanders pulled out the win, defeating the Screaming Eagles by the score of 4-3. Earning player of the game honors was Rob Ford.
Ron Spence was the walk-off hero for Asheville. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Highlanders first baseman hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.
After the game, Asheville manager Richard Weaver applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
