Battlekings Come Up Short at Phoenix
|
The Phoenix Hotspur Reserves did just enough to sneak past the Naperville Battlekings, 5-4, at Thunderbirds Stadium. Phoenix shortstop Bob Curry earned player of the game honors. Phoenix reliever Richard Carlson was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Chris Hayes took the loss for Naperville. The Battlekings, at 48-34, have lost 4 straight games.
Phoenix took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, right fielder Derek Blair hit a 3-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.
In postgame comments to the Phoenix Herald, Blair said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
