Miners Fall to .500 After Loss to Deuces
|
The Virginia Beach Deuces bested the Marquette Miners, 5-2, at Marquette Stadium. Richard Sonntag was named player of the game. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Sam Groves was the winner. Over 7.2 innings, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Olegário Pa was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 25 of 26 save opportunities.
Sonntag had a big at-bat with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the sixth inning, when he hit a 3-run home run. The Deuces went on to win.
"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," Sonntag said.
Virginia Beach improves to 40-28 with the win. They lead their division by 2 games.
