Nationals Get Close Win Over Herons
|
The Glendale Herons got a sterling performance from pitcher Yoriyoshi Yoshimura, but the Nationals still prevailed, 3-1. Yoshimura was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. Ottawa reliever Jesús Garces picked up the win, bumping his record to 7-4. Víctor Torres was collared with the loss. Errol Lange earned the save for Ottawa, his 1st of the year.
In the top of the 8th, left fielder Ken Stroud gave Ottawa the lead when he hit a 3-run home run. The Nationals had been trailing 1-0, but the two-out home run off Glendale pitcher Víctor Torres changed that -- and Ottawa went on to win.
"We take it day by day here," said Stroud, "and today was a good one for us."
Ottawa goes to 31-35, Glendale to 32-34.
