Grasshoppers Pull Back to .500 With Win Over Herons
|
San Bernardino beat Glendale at Field of the Grasshoppers, escaping with a 3-2 win. The win in large part was due to third baseman Roberto Ramírez, who earned player of the game honors. He went 2-3 with a home run and a triple. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Delmar Llerena got the win, improving to 3-3. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 6. San Bernardino is now 26-26.
Ramírez contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for San Bernardino in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Ramírez took a cutter from Yoriyoshi Yoshimura and stroked the home run to left. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Grasshoppers to leap in front, 3-2.
In postgame comments to the San Bernardino Herald, Ramírez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
