Shooters Need Extra Frames to Get Past Nationals
|
The Ottawa Nationals got a superb performance from pitcher Fernando Espinosa, but the Springfield Shooters still won the game, 4-2. Espinosa was named the player of the game despite the loss. He came in in relief and pitched to 22 batters . The Shooters improved to a lofty 23-5.
Calvin Wilms's hit in the top of the 13th was a game-changer. With one out, he rapped a fastball from Nelson Cuevas for a 2-run double. It put Springfield in front, 4-2.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Wilms. "I like it."
