Virginia Beach beat Glendale at Heron Field, eking out a 2-1 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Blaine Stottlar, who earned player of the game honors. In 8 innings, Stottlar surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Olegário Pa finished the game for Virginia Beach and earned his 5th save.
The Deuces got a big at-bat from center fielder Tevin McTevin. For the game, McTevin was 1 for 2. In the top of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 8th hit of the season gave Virginia Beach a 1-0 lead.
"It was a tough night at the plate," said Glendale manager Juan López.
It was the 7th win in 11 games this year for the defending champion Deuces, who are picking up where they left off.
