Dempsey, Lake Monsters Rough Up Humpbacks

The Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the Alaskan Humpbacks, 11-1, in USSL Triple A action at Sea World. Barry Dempsey received player of the game honors. The 8-year veteran went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 3. Bill Lee, the winner, improved to 3-2. He held the Humpbacks to 1 earned run on 2 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Vermont is 6th in the Silver AAA with a record of 15-15.
Had Augusto Encarnación not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Encarnación hit a 2-run single. That made the score 3-1, in favor of the Lake Monsters.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Encarnación said. "We did a pretty good job of that today."
