Reserves Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Disaster
|
The Reserves faced a stiff challenge from Port Royal pitcher Nam Yee Yong, but persevered to claim a win at KC Reserve Stadium. The final score was 3-1. Yong went 5.1 innings and allowed no earned runs. Kas Groen picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-1. Alfredo Hernández was tagged with the loss. Alfonso Álvarez closed the door for Athletic Club KC, picking up his 5th save of the year.
Had Wu-shun Chu not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Chu hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Reserves.
"It was a solid team effort," said Chu after the game.
Athletic Club KC is now 15-14.
