Late Rally by Lake Monsters Secures Win
|
The Vermont Lake Monsters defeated the Alaskan Humpbacks, 6-3, in USSL Triple A action at Monster Field, with Vermont pitcher Roberto Cantú named player of the game. Cantú got the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 over 8 innings. Cantú allowed 3 earned runs. Cherles Gachineiro earned the save for Vermont, his 3rd of the year.
Had Showander Descarte not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Descarte hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Lake Monsters.
"Some of the guys in here work pretty hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Cantú told the Vermont Citizen.
The Humpbacks fall to 6-8 and continue their uneasy start to the 2029 season.
