The Pawnee ParksNRec picked up a win at Whips Ballpark, knocking off the Port Royal Disaster, 4-3. Starting pitcher Baker Mayfield played a key role in the triumph. In 8 innings, Mayfield surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 3 runs. Denver Milne picked up the save for Pawnee, his 2nd of the year.
Had Ernesto Sánchez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Sánchez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the ParksNRec.
"If you ever get this game figured out," said Port Royal manager Bobby Robinson, "let me know."
The ParksNRec have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 2nd win in 8 games.
