Tortolita starter Mack MacDonald pitched effectively against the Pawnee ParksNRec at Drummers Ballpark. The right-hander led his team to a 8-5 win. Tortolita reliever Briggs Bourgeois picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Denver Milne was collared with the loss. With the win, Tortolita improves its record to 2-0.
Tortolita won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With two outs and Luis Cuero on the mound for Pawnee, pinch hitter Nate Cates hit a dramatic 3-run home run, bringing Drummers fans to their feet.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Cates told the Tortolita Daily News. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
