Sixshooters Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The Westwood Sixshooters defeated the Athletic Club KC Academy, 3-1. Earning player of the game honors was second baseman Jesús Ruano, who went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Alfonso Santa Maria closed the game out for Westwood, earning his 4th save. The Sixshooters are off to a tough start, getting just their 5th win in 14 games.
Ruano had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the seventh. On a 1-2 forkball from Ben Skelton, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Sixshooters a 3-1 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Ruano.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Sixshooters manager Ken Miller. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
