Nieves Rips Pennsauken for 5 Hits
|
Mario Nieves put on a hitting clinic today as the Brinkley Belugas dumped the Pennsauken Flyers 9-7 at Pennsauken Park.
The Brinkley first baseman made Pennsauken defenders earn their pay, lashing Pennsauken pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats in the game. He told BNN reporters after the game that his strategy was "just hit it where they pitched it."
"Too often I try too hard to pull the ball," Nieves said in his postgame press conference. "Today, I just went with the pitch."
Mario Nieves doubled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 9th.
This year Nieves has collected a .280 batting average to date with 92 hits in 328 at-bats, 60 RBIs, 10 home runs and scored 38 times. He has played in 83 games.
