Sheppard Slugs Red Pandas to 16-1 Win
|
The Sioux Falls Red Pandas met little resistance from the Tremont Doubledays, beating them 16-1 at The Bamboo Forest. Matt Sheppard led the way. He went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 3 walks. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for Sioux Falls. Eduardo Díaz got the win, improving to 1-1. He held the Doubledays to 1 earned run on 3 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. The Doubledays, now 34-48, have lost 8 straight.
A crucial at-bat came with the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the third inning. That's when shortstop Willis Kirkendall drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Red Pandas went on to win.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Kirkendall. "And not try to do too much."
