Grafton got a terrific game from first baseman Mario Ramos. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Oakland, 9-5. Ramos was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times. Ronald Harmon picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 3. On the season, he is now 2-3. The Middies, now 19-32, have lost 4 straight.
Trailing 3-2, Oakland hopes soared in the bottom of the third inning when the 23-year old shortstop Luis Luquín lifted a first pitch cutter into the stands for a grand slam home run. The round-tripper put the Oaks up, 6-3.
"We need to keep playing good baseball," Luquín told the Oakland Today.
