The Black Cats had to overcome a fine effort from Nebraska pitcher Britt Throgmorton to grab a 3-1 win at Pipers Ballpark. Throgmorton went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The win was credited to Clarence Oveur in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Ken Swander took the loss. Ming-hoa Zhou closed the door for Gwinnett County, picking up his 26th save of the year.

Juan Pedraza provided some late-game heroics for Gwinnett County. In the bottom of the eighth inning, he hit a 2-run single. It came on a 1-0 slider from Ken Swander and propelled Gwinnett County to a 3-1 lead.

"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Gwinnett County skipper Kenny Billings.

The win puts the Black Cats at 43-38, while the Plainsmen drop to 47-34.
