Great Day for Gonzalez in Plainsmen Win
|
Nebraska third baseman Elian Gonzalez picked up 3 ribbies while helping his team beat back the Phoenix Hotspur U-21, 6-1. Nebraska reliever Ken Swander picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Masahiro Sakei shouldered the loss. Alejandro Morín, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fifth when Gonzalez, who is tied for 3rd in the PA in triples with 4, hit a 3-run home run. It propelled the Plainsmen into the lead, 3-1.
Gonzalez attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
The Plainsmen bumped their record to 36-27 with this latest triumph.
