Ft. Worth Beats Thunder Bay, 5-4
|
Thunder Bay got a terrific game from designated hitter David Smith. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Ft. Worth, 5-4. Smith was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 3-3 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Nicholas Wells got the win, improving to 2-3. He pitched 7 innings, giving up 10 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 6 and walking 1. Asher Spivey earned the save, his 5th, for the Cattlemen.
Also contributing to the win was second baseman John Allen, who stroked a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth for Ft. Worth. For the game, Allen was 2 for 4 with 2 singles and a walk.
In comments to the Ft. Worth Herald, Allen insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
Ft. Worth, now 7-11, is off to a slow start.
